iPower Lites Up the ArcelorMittal Orbit

Posted by Robert, June 3, 2014

With its dramatic architecture and panoramic views of London from the East, the ArcelorMittal Orbit is a show-stopping venue for any event. Recently it hosted an event and  iPower Cordless Lighting was there to help the venue shine out!

The distinctive looping structure of the ArcelorMittal Orbit is an icon of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.  The striking steel tower became a perfect symbol of the brilliance and originality of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Visitors to the venue making the ascent are rewarded with breath-taking views over the park and 20 miles beyond, both during the day and as darkness falls.

Britain’s largest sculpture, fashioned from 2000 tonnes of steel was created by sculptor Sir Anish Kapoor, and designer Cecil Balmond, two of the most influential artists of their generation. The pair were drawn to the opportunity to put something different on the skyline of London, not an office block, but a piece of art that offers each visitor their own experience.

During the Games, this iconic structure hosted many national and international news and entertainment broadcasts, most notably on the BBC. Now as one of London’s newest event spaces; the Orbit and the Podium will play host to dinners, receptions, weddings and conferences, accommodating up to 200 guests in each area.

The evening was a great success and the simple Scandinavian inspired Oslo lamps were chosen from the iPower Cordless Lighting Collection of Lamps to compliment the surrounds and to add ambient decorative illumination that was controlled by remote control to increase the lighting level as darkness fell.
